The Struggles Small Businesses Face with Their SEO
Believe me, we’ve been there, blog after blog and still no results. The truth is SEO is a long-term game, it takes weeks, months or even years to get to those top spots.
In this blog we’ll explore the struggles small businesses face with their SEO, the solutions, what EEAT is, how you can use it to better your SEO and a couple of other things you’ll have to read to find out about.
One of the most prevalent problems small businesses face is a limited budget. SEO is a crucial part of any online business. It not only improves your visibility but increases traffic to your website, and in the end, generates more revenue.
Having a lower budget for your SEO impacts things like your keyword research and link building.
Keyword research is a critical part of SEO. It’s the process of finding words and phrases that your potential customers will be searching for when looking for goods and services.
Just like all parts of business, to get the most out of it, it requires time and money. Yes there may be free tools such as Google keyword planner, simple Google searches and ubersuggest but they just don’t perform the same as paid tools such as Ahrefs or Semrush.
Another part that’s affected by lack of funding is Link building. This is where a link to your website or blog is mentioned on another business’s website. This is a crucial part of Google’s EEAT which we’ll cover a bit later in the blog.
Backlinks are a critical ranking factor, but just like keyword research, they can be expensive to get and require a lot of time to build.
A way to overcome this challenge would be to build relationships with other businesses in a similar niche to yours, leveraging social media platforms and attending local events and organisations.
Another way to build your links is just to create top-quality informative content that people can learn from, whether this be blogs such as these or infographics. If they’re good enough people will recognise this and credit you for your hard work!
Similarly to a limited budget, limited resources not only in capital but in time, staff or technology can make it difficult to keep up with the demands of SEO. We get it, we’ve been there.
Insufficient time leads to you not being able to invest the required time in making a good SEO strategy. Making it difficult for you to rank.
One big downside for limited resources apart from the obvious is that your technical SEO starts to fall. These are the backend parts of your website. Things such as your loading speed and the structure of your site are all parts of technical SEO.
A way around this is just having a great website (link to blog). Plain and simple. Yes, websites are expensive, if anyone would know it’s us! But they’re a necessity in this day and age. You can’t be in 2024 with a poor web build.
Luckily for you, our team at Conquer the Internet have a solution for those expensive websites. You can join our website subscription in which you pay a monthly fee, over a certain time period and we build you a masterclass of a website, reach out to us and check it out!
After I assume having a relatable read so far, implementing a good SEO strategy using EEAT can solve half of your SEO problems.
What is Google’s EEAT?
EEAT stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. It’s a framework Google uses to assess and evaluate the quality of content.
Google wants to deliver search results to users that have strong EEAT. It’s worth noting that EEAT isn’t a direct ranking factor, but using it can most certainly bring those rankings up. Put simply, Google puts customer satisfaction above all else. So if you implement all the EEAT factors you’re bound to score big brownie points with Google and hopefully one day get into that number one spot.
Breaking it down
Experience:
This is first-hand experience you have within the matter you’re talking about within your blog pages. I mean think about it, as a restaurant you won’t have information on your website about the latest tech updates, because you won’t have any experience in the matter. What you write about in your blogs should reflect the experience that your business has, so for us, writing this SEO blog fits right in there.
Writing from experience allows you to provide tried-and-tested advice, authentic insights and unique opinions.
Expertise:
This refers to your knowledge, skills and credentials. Users are more likely to trust information and advice provided by you if it’s in your niche. As well as this, Google will be confident in ranking your content higher.
The level of expertise required to create quality content depends on the page’s topic and purpose.
For example, people searching for money-saving tips sometimes wouldn’t want a financial advisor's opinion but maybe some real-life examples of people who have gone through the same situation they have gone through.
Authoritativeness:
This refers to your reputation as a reliable source of information.
One way that google gauges your authoritativeness is through high-quality backlinks. The higher the quantity, quality and relevancy of your backlinks greatly impact your ranking.
Just as we spoke about earlier in the blog, getting backlinks as a smaller business is tough, but not impossible. Create content in which you have Experience and Expertise in. This makes it a lot easier to write intentional content, which sinks in with your readers and audience, as it comes from you, not some AI copy-and-paste half job, which we both you’ve thought about.
Trustworthiness:
Arguably trustworthiness is the most important factor out of the rest, as the other three are based on your trustworthiness. If you can’t be trusted no one will listen to your expertise.
You should ensure that
- Your website is secure
- Your content is accurate, truthful and up-to-date
- Users can get help if required
- You have relevant certifications, credentials e.t.c
So how can you put all of these to use and improve your EEAT?
Improving your EEAT
Create helpful content:
Yes, it’s that simple. Write content you think your target audience would want and showcase your brand’s expertise.
This way you can also gain authority in your field.
Build Your Brand Reputation:
Your brand’s reputation impacts the perceived trustworthiness of your content and site overall. So, try to get positive online exposure.
There are a number of ways you can do this, things like guest posting, link building, influencer marketing, and Social media ( link to blog )
Use Credible sources:
I think this goes without saying, but there is a lot of misinformation on the internet. Spreading it will damage your EEAT.
It’s also a best practice to link to your sources throughout your blog. So that readers know where your claims are from and can fact-check you.
Leverage UGC:
UGC (User Generated Content) is content that your clients or customers have made about your brand, this can be as simple as Google reviews to show that you are the real deal.
A better option could be to use video testimonials. This shows that users are happy with your products or services.
